Lay Dominicans – 16 November

The Order of Preachers includes not only friars, nuns and sisters but also lay people, men and women, who follow a rule and ‘preach’ not through homilies but by their work and their way of life. In the north east of England there is a small fraternity of Lay Dominicans based in Newcastle. However as the Durham house is a daughter house of Newcastle the fraternity has held an occasional meeting in Durham. At 3:00pm on Sunday 16 November there will be a meeting of the Lay Dominicans here at St Cuthbert’s. The main substance of the meeting will be a talk by fr. David on St Albert the Great, teacher of St Thomas Aquinas. Albert is often eclipsed by his remarkable pupil but is a fascinating saint himself. Anyone who is interested in either hearing more about St Albert or finding out more about the Lay Dominicans, or both, is most welcome to come along on that occasion. There will be opportunities for a chat and light refreshments after the main part of the meeting. Any further information can be obtained from David Crookes or fr Ben.
