Freshers 2019 – The Catholic Chaplaincy

If you’re a Catholic (or simply interested in the Catholic Church) and beginning studies at Durham University in the autumn of 2019, we will have various events going on at the start of term to introduce you to the Catholic Chaplaincy and to other Catholic students.

Sunday Masses at St Cuthbert’s
10:00am  Sung Parish Mass
6:30pm     Mass is celebrated at St Cuthbert’s for the Student Community every Sunday during term with the Chaplaincy Choir; outside term the Mass is a little quieter.  At the Student Mass the servers, readers, choir, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion and welcomers are all drawn from the student community.

Mass is also celebrated daily during the week and the Wednesday evening Mass (7.00pm) during University Term is usually sung with simple chants, and is followed by the Catholic Society’s main mid-week gathering, “CathSoc Night”.

The Durham University Catholic Society (known for short as CathSoc) is the community of Catholic students from Durham University who come together to worship and socialise. The society is run by its elected exec, who work closely with the Chaplain in planning and running events.
